Hull Business Forum is playing a leading role with Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, Hull City Council, local MP’s and Hull Citybuild to lobby for major improvements to the A63 Castle Street in Hull city centre.
One of Hull’s key economic strengths is its port which is located to the east of Hull city centre on the European E20 transport route running from Limerick to St Petersburg. The Humber ports complex is a global gateway and are thelargest in the UK. Hull city centre is at the start of a major regeneration programme with new shopping, leisure, office and residential developments. Castle Street currently severs the current core of the city centre from the waterfront and marina, acting as a major barrier to future development.
These dual priorities of freeing up traffic to the port and reuniting the city centre with its waterfront can be resolved by a ‘cut and cover’ road improvement scheme. We are lobbying regional and central government and agencies to push the case for this scheme.
If you share our view that a solution to the Castle Street problem is essential to the future success of the city and wider region you can write to the government: Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, Secretary of State, Department for Transport, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DR.
Or you can send the Forum an e-mail (info@hullbusinessforum.com) with your views and support and we will pass it on to the appropriate decision-makers.
