Education is a top priority in any city and no more so than in Hull.
Hull’s primary schools are excellent, there is a wealth of high-quality further education provision and the city is home to a first rate University.
However, underperformance at GCSE level and the city’s tight urban boundaries rooted the city to the ‘bottom’ of the education league tables for a number of years. A great deal of hard work across the city successfully lifted Hull off the ‘bottom’ in 2005 which has made partners even more determined to continue this momentum.
Major challenges remain, with regards to adult skills, given the significant and rapid changes in the city's economy and skills needs over recent years. The Forum has been represented by Hull’s learning partnership, Citylearning, to take forward these issues.
Education and skills are also a top priority in Hull’s new Community Strategy.
Many local businesses already work closely with local schools. A range of organisations are looking for support from local businesses. More information is available from the Humber Education Business Links Organisation www.humber-eblo.co.uk (EBLO).
