27th Quarterly Business Forum
With the new coalition Government in office, the Emergency Budget announced and the impact of the recession still being felt by many businesses, how will Hull cope with the challenging economic times ahead?
The guest speaker for the 27th Quarterly Forum is Dermot Finch the Chief Executive of the Centre for Cities, an independent urban policy research unit set up with the goal of understanding how and why economic growth takes place in Britain’s cities and to help cities improve their performance.
With several high profile studies into Hull’s economic performance not always painting an entirely positive picture, Dermot will be outlining how Hull needs to react to the changes taking place and also what the city needs to do to boost private sector growth and deal with the implications of less public investment in Hull’s regeneration programmes.
Dermot Finch has led the Centre for Cities since its inception in 2005. The Centre produces practical research on the economic drivers of urban growth and change, and policy solutions for Whitehall, cities and business.
Previously, Dermot was a senior policy adviser at HM Treasury including 3 years at the British Embassy in Washington DC and 2 years as a private secretary in both of Ken Clarke and Gordon Brown's ministerial teams. His range of Treasury policy responsibilities included financial services, the euro, productivity, enterprise and cities.
John Holmes, the Chief Executive of Hull Forward, will join Dermot in analysing what lies ahead for Hull and its regeneration Masterplan now that the impact of funding reductions is beginning to filter through.
