Consultation on policing priorities with Humberside Police Authority
The ONE HULL Business Forum is working with Humberside Police Authority to ensure the views of local businesses are represented during the consultation on the future priorities of Humberside Police.
The consultation event will take place on Thursday 16th September at the offices of the Police Authority at Pacific Exchange, 40 High Street, Hull. The event will include lunch which will be held from 12.15pm and the meeting itself will commence at 1pm concluding at 2.30pm at the latest.
This is a unique opportunity for local businesses to influence the future activity of Humberside Police as Humberside Police Authority prepares for substantial reductions to its budgets in the years ahead. Business crime is estimated to cost £12.6 billion a year, what are your priorities?
The invitation letter below is from Paul Cheeseman, Strategic Development Manager, Humberside Police Authority, who is coordinating the consultation process. If you would like to attend this event you can reserve your place via the form below.
Dear Business Forum Members
Involving the Business Community in Shaping Policing
I am the Strategic Development Manager, Communities and Partnerships at Humberside Police Authority. We work independently, on behalf of local people, to hold the Chief Constable to account for policing in your area. A primary responsibility of the Authority is to secure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force. We achieve this by consulting the public, deciding how much local people will pay for policing through their council tax and then ensuring this money is spent wisely on local public priorities.
The comprehensive spending review later this year will lead to reductions in budgets for many public services, including the police. While the scale of these reductions is unknown the Police Authority is working closely with Humberside Police on planning for the future. As part of that work the Authority is eager to engage with the business community to determine which services provided by the police locally are really important to them.
With the kind cooperation of the ONE HULL Business Forum we have arranged a focus group on Thursday 16th September and plan to use this as an opportunity to hear from the business community about what they want their police force to deliver during a time of reductions in public spending. The Police Authority, on your behalf, will then ensure these views are taken into account when setting the budget and policing priorities for the Chief Constable for 2011/12. This will ensure that, while budget reductions will not be without pain, the business community and the wider community can be confident and reassured about the policing services they will receive in the future.
The event will be held at Pacific Exchange, 40 High Street in Hull and a buffet lunch will provided at 12.15pm with the meeting commencing at 1pm and an anticipated conclusion no later than 2.30pm.
Finally, I do hope you will feel able to support this event and I look forward to meeting with you. If you are not able to attend then you can still make your views known by using the ‘Have your Say’ facility on the Police Authority web site at www.humberside-pa.org.uk
Yours sincerely
Paul Cheeseman
