The Hull Business Forum is supporting Hull City Council on the development of an Employment Land Review which forms part of the long term planning vision for the city (the Hull Development Framework). Following the publication of the City Centre Master-plan by Hull Citybuild (the city’s urban regeneration company), the Council has prepared a draft City Centre Area Action Plan. The Plan will act as basis for making decisions on development proposals and will also help in focusing investment in particular locations within the city centre.
To support the unprecedented relief launched by the City Council this week, the Hull Flood Fund has been established, as announced by The Lord Mayor and Kim Ryley, and have written to key contacts in local businesses to ask for donations to get the fund off to a flying start.
England will become smokefree on Sunday 1st July 2007. The law has been introduced as a method of protecting employees and the public from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. As a result from the 1st July it will be against the law to smoke in virtually all enclosed public places, workplaces and public and work vehicles.
Every business in Hull needs to have the right premises in the right place to help them develop and grow. At a recent meeting of the Hull Business Forum Business Advisory Group, members expressed concern about the overall stock of business premises available in Hull is not meeting business needs and the land available for commercial property in Hull is limited. As a result careful, evidence based planning and policy decisions are required, which will take business needs and demand into account.
Work on the St Stephens development is well underway and should be open for next Christmas. With new schemes and developments happening across the city centre we want to know what local businesses think will change as result of this investment, and what else needs to happen to attract shoppers, visitors and investors back into the city centre.
