Hull Skills Fund

The Skills Fund set up by the City Council is being reactive to the economic downturn by amending its criteria to be more flexible in supporting small businesses of Hull. The fund was designed to deal with issues relating to training, employment and the growth of sustainable small businesses and skills in the City of Kingston upon Hull.
The criteria has been amended to even further support the small businesses with less than 10 employees, with a training grant of up to 70% upto a total cost of £3000.

If your organisation has 10 - 49 employees, the skills fund will support you with a grant of 60% towards training upto £2500. With 50 - 249 employees, you are now entitled to 50% upto £2000 and with 250 - 500 employees you can receive upto 40% of the total cost upto £1500.

It will ensure that employees have the right skills to meet the demands of employers and try to boost the local economy in the economic downturn. The scheme will provide a subsidy towards training costs for intermediate and higher level skills of employees within the City. Grants will also be considered for training that has a direct business benefit to the organisation. Applications must be accompanied by a supporting business case.

Cllr Kalvin Neal, the recently appointed portfolio holder for Employment and Enterprise commented: 'Allowing business's to adapt to new challenges and opportunities has to be a priority. Having a workforce that can have access to bespoke training will help the city recover from the current economic downturn'.

Already this financial year, over 40 organisations have taken advantage of the skills fund with the majority of the employees studying a level 3 course.
