Carers' Centre Hull award ' Carers Charter' to three local employers
On Friday 19th March 2010, the Carers Centre Hull hosted an event at the K.C. Stadium to launch a Resource Pack for Employers, developed as part of the ‘Caring at Work Project’.
Over 50 representatives from local employers attended the launch. Three local organisations, Eskimo Soup, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Sonoco Trident were presented with the award of the “Caring Employers Chartermark”. Employers who meet certain criteria were awarded with a certificate and the logo which can then be used in company publications, recruitment and advertising materials.
Greg Harman, Centre Manager, said “It makes sound business sense to provide support for experienced employees rather than lose them because of the stress of combining work with caring responsibilities at home.”
Dave Keel, Joint Managing Director of Sonoco Trident said “Until we were contacted by the Carers’ Centre Hull, we felt that we were comprehensively supporting our employees, however the carer support session which the Centre provided for us at our premises was a real success and we were surprised at the level of staff participation. It is something we aim to repeat annually.”
The Carers' Centre Hull is a charity dedicated to supporting carers, i.e a person who looks after another adult or child with a chronic long-term illness or disability. The disability may be mental or physical or both.
Since 1999 they have supported over 6,600 carers and those they care for.
