Contract opportunities on £465m project
The organisations tasked with delivering Hull’s ‘Building Schools for the Future’ programme have announced details of an event to showcase its 19 projects to be delivered over the next four years so that local organisations can register an interest in becoming part of the supply chain in the city’s biggest ever regeneration programme.
Hull Esteem Consortium, a multi-industry partnership between Hull-based Sewell Group, Morgan Sindall Investments and Robertson Capital Projects, were awarded the £465m contract to reconstruct and remodel 19 schools in November 2009.
The consortium will give a presentation at the Hull Truck Theatre on Tuesday 29 June. The Esteem Expo event, which is designed for organisations wishing to express an interest to register for pre-qualification to provide services to the Consortium, will give attendees an opportunity to meet specialist buyers and also network with other businesses who may be interested in forming partnerships to supply the Consortium.
Paul Brooke, Esteem Director said: “The Hull BSF project is the biggest regeneration programme ever undertaken in the city and we have made a commitment to use local suppliers and labour wherever practically possible. This event provides local businesses with an opportunity to learn more about how they could get involved with working on the project and speak to buyers from the Consortium.”
Organisations that specialise in the following fields are urged to attend to find out more:
• Professional; e.g. Architects, engineers
• Construction; e.g SubContractors, Materials, Labour, Machinery
• Local Community Services
• Suppliers
Due to the nature and scale of the work, smaller organisations and sole traders may need to consider partnerships and/or strategic alliances with similar like-minded businesses. This is an ideal networking opportunity to meet other organisations in the same sectors.
The Consortium, which will set out the standards it wants, needs and expects, as well as the likely work streams over the coming months, has given a commitment to buy locally where it can be demonstrated that suppliers are able to offer the right capacity, capabilities and commercialism within their services. . Working on behalf of Hull City Council the Consortium aims to procure services based on strict criteria which include:
• Price (by recommending the most economically advantageous approach)
• Delivery (by guaranteeing an appropriate turnaround time from order to delivery)
• Aesthetic (the functional characteristics – by delivering the right and appropriate approach)
• Technical merit (by delivering a service that is fit for purpose)
• After sales service (by providing support once the work is complete)
The event takes place at the Hull Truck Theatre from 12.30 pm on Tuesday 29 June 2010.
