Pioneering employer-backed education programme launches in Hull
Innovative scheme raising aspirations and developing employability skills of students being launched at Archbishop Sentamu Academy, September 2010.
Students have opportunity to study equivalent of three A-Levels and benefit from one-to-one business mentoring and six-week internship over the summer. Representatives from companies will visit the Academy to share experiences.
CAN YOU HELP?
Partner in Business- Mentor a student.
- Meet to discuss business etiquette and life skills.
- Support coursework, e.g. case studies from own experience.
- Expose student to variety of jobs and careers in your business, to raise aspirations.

Serve as a sounding board.
Guru Lecturer- One-off or series of visits that could be 1 hour per year to make big impact delivering specialist part of curriculum to small group of students
- Deliver talks or attend round table discussions.

Topics may include industry specialist areas, professional experiences, careers, business etiquette, CV tips.
Host for Workplace Visits
- Host workplace tours, presentations, seminars, mock interviews, business simulations.
- Update teachers on current industry practice.

Offer refreshments for meetings.
Internship Provider- Host student(s) for summer PAID work placement.
- Devise role for 6 week internship, and increase intern’s awareness of your organisation.
- Interview allocated intern(s).

Supervise work assignments and provide feedback
Advisory Board Member- Quarterly meetings
- Strategically steer a Career Academy in your community
- Proactively raise the profile of a local Career Academy, leveraging contacts.
- Help locate Partners in Business, Guru Lecturers, visits, and internships.
