Memorandum of Understanding signed between UK Trade and Investment and the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)

This Memorandum will recognise the Humber LEP as the lead contact for co-coordinating inward investment across the sub region, and hopes to offer a new way of working to direct international projects towards the UK while promoting the resources and incentives available in the Humber Enterprise Zones.

Chairman of the Humber LEP, Lord Haskins, said:

“The Humber has a compelling offer for inward investment, with excellent infrastructure, natural assets and now extra incentives through our Enterprise Zones. We look forward to working closely with the UKTI Inward Investment Service to attract more foreign direct investment to our area.”

A ‘UK First’ model will be used to develop inward investment propositions, whilst also improving the experiences of those companies wishing to invest in the UK.

Martin Phelan, Director of Investment, UK Trade and Investment added;

“Operating under the ‘UK First’ model, our team will work with local partnerships including the Humber LEP to develop the best inward investment propositions. We aim to identify the projects that will fit with the great strategic assets that the UK has to offer.

“This MOU will be a vital part of improving the experience for companies wishing to invest in the UK. It will harness the UK’s global integrated network whilst at the same time further strengthening the important link with local communities and business.

“Foreign companies seeking to locate and grow their business in the UK will now have a clear point of entry to the government’s inward investment support and a single pathway right through to the local level. International businesses continue to choose the UK as the most attractive destination in Europe for their investment projects. The new ‘UK First’ model underlines our commitment to maintaining this position.

“The Hull and Humber area with its Enterprise Zones, Port facilities and existing industry strengths makes a great contribution to the UK’s inward investment offer. The major proposed investment in wind turbine manufacturing by Siemens is testament to this. ”

The MoU is one of a number of bespoke memorandums being developed across the country.
